About Us

Founded in 2017, Rogue Aerospace is a dynamic team of some of the brightest mechanical engineering, technology management and computer science at NYU. Our synergy makes us one of the most competitive engineering teams at NYU Tandon.

Who We Are

Rogue Aerospace is the launchpad for the next generation of aerospace engineers at NYU. From computer modeling to field tests, creating award-winning rockets requires our team members to be equipped with industry-level materials and skills. Not only do we provide hands-on and rigorous training to our members, but we also look to inspire students’ interest in STEM through our outreach program with local K-12 schools. Our alumni have graduated from Rogue to bright internships and job opportunities in engineering, technology, finance, and more.

What We Do

Rogue Aerospace competes in the NASA University Student Launch. The competition is an academic year-long challenge where college teams from across the country design and launch a rocket and payload. We support our members to pursue their professional certification in high-power rocketry (HPR) and hold workshops that teach the fundamentals of rocketry to inspire interest in the field.

  • Design and manufacture of the rocket's aerostructure. Test all composite materials, made in house or purchased. Design and manufacture structures related to ground support equipment.

  • Design fins of rocket and their retention mechanism. Utilize composite manufacturing techniques to fabricate fins of rocket. Utilize or develop programmed solutions to predict characteristics of flight. Design, integrate, and test recovery system of rocket.

  • Develop flight computer to record telemetry of flight and command ejection of recovery systems. Design and assemble electronics for launch sequence control and recording of data for static test fires and other tests.

  • Design structural and electronic components of payload for integration into aerostructure of rocket. Fabricate nose cone utilizing composite manufacturing techniques.

  • Design hybrid propulsion system using solid fuel and liquid oxidizer. Design, fabricate, and assemble structural components of the propulsion system including oxidizer tank, nozzle, and plumbing. Design and facilitate procedures for static test fires and launch sequence.

Engineering Teams

  • Create media and other content to represent the team and appeal to sponsors.

  • Manage budgetary needs and communicate budgetary concerns.

  • Assist in the planning of travel for competition or testing campaigns. Facilitate transport of rocket and supplies to competition.
